Baron's Engine Guards

WHY? A couple of reasons. First, I like the looks of the Baron's guards and I believe that they add to the "bagger" look that I've tried to create with this bike. On a more practical note, I'd like a little protection for pipes, pegs, and legs in case I lay the rig down. I realize that no crash bar/engine guard will hold up in a high-speed slide, but they do provide some protection at lower speeds. I probably could have found a better price elsewhere, but I elected to buy from my friends at Yamaha Sportscenter. Though they offer online ordering, I like to call just to say hello to Brad and Randy.

SERVICE. Same old story. They had the item in stock. As usual, they shipped same day. I received the package the next business day! I know that I'm sounding like a broken record, but Tony O and the Sportscenter team have never failed to deliver the goods. The guards arrived packed in the original manufacturer's box, complete with all parts and instructions. The welds were clean and the chrome was flawless.

INSTALLATION. This was a real piece of cake. Instructions were complete and easy to follow; The average home mechanic should have no problem with this one. Start to finish, the entire installation took me only about 15 minutes. Everything fit perfectly, although you have to work carefully and in pretty close quarters.

RESULTS. I'm happy so far. I like the looks of the bars. I haven't had to test their crash-worthiness, and I hope that I never have to report on that.

WORTH THE MONEY? They were pretty expensive, so I can't say that they were worth the money when viewed as a chrome ornament. The first time I forget to drop the kickstand and drop the bike on its side, though, the guards could be a real bargain!
